If your garage door won't close, goes halfway down then comes back up, or only closes when you hold the wall button, the safety sensors (the “little eyes” near the floor) are the usual culprit — especially in bright sunlight. Here's what homeowners can safely check.
When the door only closes while you hold the wall button, the opener is ignoring the sensors and running in a limited safety mode. That almost always means the photo eyes are misaligned, dirty, wired incorrectly, or blocked — even if nothing obvious is in the way.
A door that closes then reopens, or reverses just before the floor, is reacting to sensors, travel limits, or force settings. Clean both sensor lenses, confirm both lights are steady (not blinking), and make sure the lenses face each other squarely.
Sunlight hitting the photo eyes is a real, common issue. If the door won't close during the day but works at night, shade or realign the sensors, or call us to remount them out of direct sun.
If remotes and the wall button open the door but closing fails, focus on sensors and close-travel limits — not “bad remotes.” Remotes that only work up close are a separate signal/range problem.
